Our goal is to provide safe, orderly, and fair parking for employees, students, and visitors to our campus. We strive to make parking on campus as convenient as possible, while promoting safe movement of vehicles, providing for pedestrian safety, and assuring free and continuous access to buildings and walkways for pedestrians and emergency vehicles.

We encourage you to take advantage of services provided to reduce the number of vehicles being parked on campus. Parking Services offers Carpool and Occasional Parker permits, while Transit Services provides extensive, free bus services.

  • SUGGESTIONS/IDEAS FOR PARKING "SMART" ON A SNOW DAY
    1. Park your vehicle next to other parked vehicles at the front of the lot.
    2. Use the UMass bus service.
    3. Carpool rides whenever possible.
    4. Walk if possible.
    5. Have someone drop you off.
    6. If space is not available in your assigned lot, go to either Lot 25 (north of roadway) or Yellow Lot 12 (both west of Physical Plant). During snow conditions, it is not possible to guarantee normal lot capacity will be available.
    7. If you receive a parking citation and believe it was improperly issued, you may appeal it at Parking Services within 14 days from the date issued. Appeals can be submitted in writing, appealed in person to the Hearings Clerk, or appealed online here.

  • March 6-8 Campus Wide Parking Restrictions

Last year, thousands of students from other campuses came to the town of Amherst during the first weekend in March. This event became known as ?Blarney Blowout.? Many of these out-of-town visitors stayed in our residence halls and utilized our parking lots as staging areas. The ensuing large scale disturbance resulted in personal injuries, destruction of property, arrests, and numerous student discipline cases. The lasting impact of this disturbance and recommendations for responding to this type of incident was outlined in the Davis Report - http://bit.ly/196BIgz.

This year we are limiting access to our campus in the residence halls and parking lots. Consistent with the changes to the residence hall guest policy for the weekend of March 6-8, please note that all campus parking lots will be restricted to valid UMass Amherst permit holders from Friday, March 6 at 5 PM through Sunday, March 8 at 5 PM.

During these dates, all campus parking lots will be considered 24 hour restricted lots. Vehicles parking on campus without a valid UMass Amherst parking permit are subject to ticketing and/or towing.

Faculty, students and staff who do not have a UMass Amherst parking permit and need to park on campus for work during this restricted period may call Parking Services at 413-577-PARK for additional information.

For any other questions regarding parking, please call Parking Services 413-577-PARK, or visit: http://parking.umass.edu/

  • RED LOT 62 Update

After review with Design & Construction the Integrated Design Building (IDB) project will begin April 1st. Due to the loss of space in Red Lot 62, 42 permit holders will be permanently relocated to alternate lots.

Parking Services is allocating the lot assignments by seniority as recommended by Labor/Union Relations. Seniority is based on University records for length of employment. If you are one of the 42 you will be notified shortly by email.

Parking Services will be holding an open forum at Morrill Science Building Room 258 for Lot 62 parking permit holders on Friday, February 27, 2015 at 12 p.m. to discuss your concerns.

If you have any questions please contact Jonathon King, Parking Manager at (413)577-PARK or jwking@umass.edu

    Thank you.

  • Lot 62 Construction UPDATE

Construction of the new Integrated Design Building (IDB) is targeted to begin the first week of April 2015. The contractor will close access to the section of the lot outlined on the map below. The northernmost section of the lot will remain open and available for parking. The new section of Red Lot 62, east of French on Thatcher Rd was completed on schedule, December 12th, and is available to Lot 62 permit holders.

A phase of IDB construction will address underground utilities and may cause temporary disruption to the entire lot. The contractor is working to keep these disruptions to a minimum. For more information about this construction project please visit the Design & Construction management website, http://www.umass.edu/facilities
Approximately half the current number of parking spaces in Red Lot 62 will be lost to construction. To assist permit holders who will be permanently displaced due to construction, Parking Services will provide alternate lot assignment options.

Permit holders will be notified by email the second week of February 2015 about available lots and instructions on how to choose your top three preferred lots. Responses will be due before Monday, March 2, 2015. Parking Services will assign lots by university seniority and chosen preference.

If you have questions, please contact Parking Services at 413.545.PARK (7275) Thank you
