Faculty, staff, and students with handicapped placards or license plates issued by any state may receive an annual UMass handicapped parking permit at no charge. Their vehicles must be registered with Parking Services, with proof provided of their state placards or plate registrations.
Vehicles displaying state-issued handicapped license plates or placards may park, at no charge, in handicapped spaces, or any unreserved space including parking meters. Fees are charged for all vehicles, regardless of special plates and placards, for parking in the Campus Center Parking Garage.
Anyone in the UMass community who requires Special Needs parking for one semester or longer must first register with Disability Services, Room 231, Whitmore Administration Building, tel. (413) 545-0892.
Disability Services reviews each case and, working with Parking Services, determines the most appropriate parking assignment.
Short-Term Special Needs Parking Permit holders in their third trimester of pregnancy qualify for a temporary Special Needs parking permit at no charge, provided a doctor's note with the due date is presented to Parking Services.
ADA regulations forbid Parking Services to provide temporary handicapped parking permits unless an individual has already registered with the state for a placard or special license plate. A copy of the state application must be provided in order to receive a temporary permit.

Personal Care Attendants are eligible for special parking permits provided they have registered with Disability Services. Please contact that office for further information.
